Greek authorities have arrested two young men in connection with a criminal organization that sexually exploited underage girls with mental health issues and distributed child pornography.
The operation took place Thursday morning in Thessaloniki, following arrest warrants issued by investigative authorities. The suspects include a 21-year-old Greek-American, believed to be the ringleader, and an 18-year-old Greek national, his accomplice.
Background of the Case
The 21-year-old suspect had previously been arrested in April following a U.S. extradition request for similar charges. However, the Thessaloniki Court of Appeal rejected the extradition, citing his Greek citizenship and the fact that the alleged crimes occurred on Greek territory.
Charges
The First Instance Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki has filed serious charges against the two individuals, including:
- Membership in a criminal organization
- Intentional bodily harm against minors with mental health challenges
- Distribution of child pornography
Investigators report that the criminal group operated primarily through online platforms, targeting children aged 8 to 17, including those with mental health issues, members of the LGBTQI+ community, and youth of color.
Content circulated by the organization included videos depicting violence, self-harm, sexual acts, and other explicit materials.
About the Organization
According to U.S. authorities, the group, referred to as “Organization 764”, is described as an extremist, violent, and nihilistic structure with a dangerous criminal profile.
During testimony before Greek authorities, the 21-year-old suspect denied all involvement. Both individuals are expected to appear before the 6th Investigative Magistrate in Thessaloniki to respond to the charges.
