U.S. President Donald Trump has announced plans to impose tariffs on the United Kingdom, Denmark, and several other European countries, introducing a 10% tariff on all goods exported to the United States.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the tariffs will take effect on February 1, 2026.

According to the U.S. president, these tariffs will remain in force until “a full and total agreement is reached for the purchase of Greenland.”

Trump added that the tariff would increase to 25% in June 2026.

“The United States of America is immediately open to negotiations with Denmark and/or any of these countries that have put so much at risk, despite everything we have done for them, including maximum defense, over so many decades,” the U.S. president wrote.

Trump’s full statement:

“We have subsidized Denmark, all European Union countries, and others for many years by not charging them tariffs or any other form of compensation. Now, after centuries, it is time for Denmark to pay back — world peace is at stake! China and Russia want Greenland and there is nothing Denmark can do about it. They currently have two sleds as defense, one of which was added recently. Only the United States of America, under President Donald J. Trump, can play this game — and very successfully! No one will touch this sacred piece of land, especially since the National Security of the United States and of the World in general is at risk.

Furthermore, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland have traveled to Greenland for unknown purposes. This is a very dangerous situation for the security and survival of our Planet. These countries, which are playing this very dangerous game, have put a level of risk on the table that is not sustainable.

Therefore, to protect global peace and security, it is necessary to take strong measures so that this potentially dangerous situation ends quickly and decisively. Starting February 1, 2026, all of the above-mentioned countries (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Finland) will be charged a 10% tariff on every good shipped to the United States of America. On June 1, 2026, the tariff will increase to 25%.

This tariff will be mandatory and payable until the time when a full and total agreement is reached for the purchase of Greenland. The United States has tried to make this transaction for more than 150 years. Many presidents have tried, and for good reasons, but Denmark has always refused.

Now, due to the Golden Dome and modern weapons systems, both offensive and defensive, the need to purchase is particularly important. Hundreds of billions of dollars are currently being spent on security programs related to the ‘Dome,’ including possible protection for Canada, and this very excellent but highly complex system can only operate at its maximum potential and efficiency — due to angles, metrics, and boundaries — if this land is included.

The United States of America is immediately open to negotiations with Denmark and/or any of these countries that have put so much at risk, despite everything we have done for them, including maximum defense, over so many decades. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
