Richard Grenell, the U.S. special envoy under President Donald Trump, cited a statement from the former president, emphasizing that Trump desires peace, while Europe is making plans for rearmament and conflict.
“Trump: We want peace. Europe: Let’s rearm and fight. Can we all agree now that Europe should have rearmed between 2014-2020, after Russia’s first invasion of Crimea and before the next one under Joe Biden?” Grenell posted on X, sharing a video of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
In the video, von der Leyen highlighted Europe’s growing security concerns. “We live in dangerous times, Europe’s security is seriously threatened, and the question now is whether we can respond with the necessary speed,” she said. This statement came just days before the extraordinary defense summit, where Europe will discuss its five-point “ReArm Europe” plan.
Donald Trump appointed his long-time foreign policy adviser, Richard Grenell, as the U.S. special envoy. Grenell will also play a role in the ongoing EU-led Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, according to reports from KosovaPress.
