The head of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) War Veterans’ Organization, Hysni Gucati, delivered a powerful speech today before thousands of citizens from Kosovo and the Albanian diaspora gathered in The Hague to protest in support of the former KLA leaders.
The protest, held at the park near the Madurodam Museum, not far from the Special Court building, opened with the national anthems of Albania and Kosovo – a symbol of unity and respect for national sacrifice.
Gucati began his address with chants of: “UÇK, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi,” energizing the crowd of protestors.
He stated that this protest represents the voice of the dignity of the Albanian people, a call for denied justice, and the defense of the sacred history of the KLA.
“The KLA was not born from hatred, but from injustice,” Gucati emphasized.
He added that freedom was not a gift, but was achieved through the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the flag and the homeland.
“We are the descendants of an army that did not bow down to Serbian tanks or helicopters. Europe must not allow justice to become a political instrument. The democratic world cannot close its eyes to such great injustice,” he declared.
In closing, Gucati appealed to the international community not to treat liberators as criminals, but as fighters for freedom and justice.
Meanwhile, Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi, and Rexhep Selimi have been in detention in The Hague since November 2020, facing charges of crimes against humanity and war crimes.
