UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has sharply condemned the Israeli airstrikes that killed Palestinians at Nasser Hospital on Monday morning, saying he “strongly denounces” the killings.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Guterres stressed that “these latest horrific killings highlight the extreme risks faced by medical personnel and journalists.”

He called for the protection of civilians at all times, including healthcare workers and journalists, and demanded a “swift and impartial investigation” into the deadly strikes.

The Secretary-General further underlined that journalists must be able to work “without interference, threats, or harm, in full accordance with international humanitarian law.”

Guterres reiterated his call for:

  • An immediate and permanent ceasefire
  • Unrestricted humanitarian access throughout Gaza
  • The immediate and unconditional release of all hostages
