United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres stated that he does not believe Israel is open to “serious negotiations” for a ceasefire in Gaza or for the release of hostages.

“I would like an immediate ceasefire, and such a ceasefire accompanied by an international force capable of protecting civilians would be a goal I hold very dear,” Guterres said during a press conference.

However, he added that Israel appears determined to push forward militarily and is not currently willing to engage in meaningful talks toward halting the conflict.
