An interesting race is expected to take place in the local elections in Kosovo, especially in the capital Prishtina. A surprising name is expected to emerge from the ranks of the Vetëvendosje Movement, it is the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Hajrullah Çeku.
Although it has not yet been officially confirmed, Albin Kurti’s party has not denied the possibility of Çeku being a candidate for mayor.
The head of Vetëvendosje assembly members, Gëzim Sveçla, has stated to Indeksonline that the candidate is likely to be made official this week.
“It is one of the names that is being mentioned,” he said briefly.
Meanwhile, the President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, has set the date of October 12 for holding regular local elections.
“This decision was made after careful consideration of the proposals of political entities and after a full analysis, in accordance with constitutional and legal deadlines,” the Kosovo presidency said in a statement.
