The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, commemorated May 29 as one of the most critical moments in the Kosovo Liberation Army’s (KLA) fight, particularly in the Dukagjin region and throughout Kosovo.
“May 29, 1998 marks one of the defining moments of the KLA war in Dukagjin and across Kosovo — the beginning of frontal combat in the Municipality of Peja,” Haradinaj wrote.
He recalled how on this day, Serbian forces attempted to penetrate the Lugu i Baranit area, but were repelled by the resistance of KLA fighters. In the villages of Vranoc and Kryshec, local youth took up arms to defend their homeland.
Haradinaj paid tribute to the martyrs and heroes who gave their lives for Kosovo’s freedom during the 1998–1999 war, naming several who fell in the line of duty, such as Adnan Berisha, Arif Mahmutdemaj, and Avni Përgjegjaj, among many others.
