Today marks Albanian Alphabet Day, commemorating the Congress of Manastir, a key moment in the unification of the Albanian language and the strengthening of national identity.
In a statement, Ramush Haradinaj, chairman of the AAK, described the Congress as a historic turning point for Albanians.
“The Congress of Manastir was the cornerstone of a significant beginning in Albanian identity. The Albanian language became a bridge for national unification, while our alphabet defined the Western orientation of Albanians. The historic decisions made by the intellectuals and patriots of that time remain today the foundation of our vision for a united nation, steadfast in its Euro-Atlantic values,” Haradinaj wrote.
