Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), has marked the anniversary of the Tusuz massacre, recalling the pain and sacrifice endured by the people of Kosovo during the final days of the war.
In a message posted on Facebook on May 26, 2025, Haradinaj stated that Kosovo has paid a high price for its freedom, emphasizing the ongoing responsibility to bring justice for war crimes committed by Serbian forces.
“Aware they were losing the war, in late May 1999, Serbian forces intensified their brutality against Albanians in Kosovo. In the Tusuz neighborhood of Prizren, just weeks before liberation, 27 innocent Albanians were brutally executed and over 250 homes were burned,” Haradinaj wrote.
He stressed that the memory of the victims must never fade and justice must prevail:
“Kosovo has paid a high price for freedom. Today, and every day, it is our duty to ensure justice is served for all Serbian crimes. The memory of the fallen will never be extinguished. Eternal glory to those who gave their lives for Kosovo’s freedom.”
A Reminder of the Past, a Call for Justice
The Tusuz massacre, one of many atrocities committed during the Kosovo War, remains a tragic reminder of the suffering endured by ethnic Albanians. Despite the passage of more than two decades, many of these crimes remain unpunished, and calls for international accountability continue.
Haradinaj’s statement comes as Kosovo still seeks recognition and reparations for war-time atrocities, and underscores the enduring collective memory and national resolve to honor those who sacrificed their lives.
