Former Prime Minister of Kosovo and leader of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, has recalled the meeting he had six years ago with James Mattis, who was then the U.S. Secretary of Defense.
Haradinaj states that this was one of the most significant meetings of his political career, when Secretary Mattis agreed to the request for the establishment of the Kosovo Army.
The candidate for prime minister in the upcoming elections scheduled for February next year noted that the creation of the army was a key step towards strengthening Kosovo’s statehood.
“Our achievements as a state are the result of building close and sincere relations with our Western friends, especially with the United States of America, our greatest ally. Today marks 6 years since one of the most important meetings of my political career, the meeting with U.S. Secretary of Defense, James Mattis. In this meeting, Secretary Mattis said YES to my insistence on creating the Kosovo Army, a key step towards strengthening our sovereignty and state security.
I express my gratitude to the U.S. and Secretary Mattis for their unwavering support!” Haradinaj wrote.
