The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, has commented on the ongoing political deadlock following the failure of Albin Kurti, the first nominee, to form a new government. Haradinaj stated that the role of President Vjosa Osmani is now clear — if no new parliamentary majority is formed, the country must move toward elections.
Haradinaj explained that while a theoretical potential exists for the opposition to form a majority, it would require a clear and unified political agreement among opposition parties.
“We have 52 opposition Albanian MPs, which is four more than Vetëvendosje. This means that if there’s an agreement among the opposition, there’s a possibility to give the country a government,” Haradinaj said.
However, he emphasized that such an agreement does not yet exist, and without a new majority, the only constitutional path forward is new elections.
“Given that there’s no such agreement or common platform among the opposition, and since the first mandate has failed, the situation is clear. As no one currently holds a new majority of 61 MPs, the President must call elections,” he added.
Haradinaj also addressed reports that Vetëvendosje has gathered signatures from its MPs, explaining that this move is merely tactical, ensuring that its deputies do not support any potential opposition nominee.
“I’ve heard that Vetëvendosje collected signatures, but that’s just a guarantee — to make sure a deputy cannot sign for two different nominees. VV wants to ensure that none of its MPs support an opposition candidate. However, there will be no new nominee from VV, because anyone seeking the mandate must prove they have the support of 61 MPs. The President can no longer assign the mandate based on election results alone; now, there must be concrete proof of a majority,” Haradinaj said during his appearance on Debat Plus.
He concluded with a direct message to the opposition:
“If the opposition truly wanted, we could form the government by noon tomorrow without the Serbian List. We have more Albanian votes than Kurti, and I personally guarantee every vote from the community representatives,” Haradinaj declared.
