The ongoing political deadlock in Kosovo, caused by the inability to form new institutions following the February elections, is drawing criticism from foreign diplomats accredited in the country.

British Ambassador to Kosovo, Jonathan Hargreaves, voiced his concerns during a meeting today with AAK leader Ramush Haradinaj, stating:

“Kosovo’s political deadlock is harming the country. Today I met with the leader of AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, to exchange views on the need for decisive action once the Constitutional Court’s decision is made, and the importance of inclusive municipal elections in October,” Hargreaves wrote on Facebook.

Haradinaj also commented on the meeting, emphasizing the urgent need to overcome the institutional impasse:

“Haradinaj reiterated that this deadlock must be resolved after August 8, when the Constitutional Court is expected to issue its full ruling. He highlighted that the full functioning of institutions is essential for the democratic stability and Euro-Atlantic orientation of the Republic of Kosovo,” AAK said in a press release.

The Constitutional Court has imposed a temporary measure suspending the convening of the constitutive session of the Assembly. This measure prohibits MPs from making decisions or taking action from July 27 until August 8, when the final ruling on the parliamentary impasse is expected.
