UK Ambassador to Kosovo Jonathan Hargreaves has called for the urgent formation of new institutions, following two failed attempts to constitute the Assembly after the February 9 parliamentary elections.

In a Facebook post, Hargreaves stressed that Kosovo’s citizens deserve a functional Assembly and government, and urged political leaders to cooperate in the national interest.

“More than two months after the elections, Kosovo urgently needs a functioning Assembly and government. Citizens have the right to expect their leaders to cooperate for the good of the country,” he wrote.

The constitutional process has stalled again after LVV’s Avni Dehari suspended the latest session due to a lack of consensus on how to proceed. A new session is now scheduled for April 19 at 12:00.

Meanwhile, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku reiterated that his party will not support the mandate verification report unless Prime Minister Albin Kurti resigns.

Former Vetëvendosje caucus leader Mimoza Kusari-Lila stated that if the opposition refuses dialogue on verifying deputies’ mandates, “they can head back to new elections.”

Time Kadrijaj of AAK accused Kurti of intentionally delaying the process to stay in power despite lacking the votes to form a new government.

The deadlock raises the stakes for Saturday’s session, which may determine whether Kosovo heads toward a new government or fresh elections.
