The U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans, Alexander Kasanof, stated today that the U.S. presidential elections, scheduled for November 5, are unlikely to significantly impact U.S. policy toward the Western Balkans in general or the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
“The foreign policy of the U.S. is based on our national interests, and it is unlikely that our national interests will change to such an extent that it would dramatically affect our calculations or policy when it comes to Kosovo.”
He noted that his first visit to Kosovo was “primarily a listening tour” and “to learn more about the issues.”
“I’ve learned a lot, and I will convey that information when I return to Washington,” Kasanof said.
Kasanof visited Pristina following visits this week to Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This was his first tour of the region since he assumed the role of U.S. envoy for the Western Balkans in July of this year.
