The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of Albania, Igli Hasani, stated that relations with neighboring countries and regional security are at the core of Albania’s diplomacy, while the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo, according to him, are a national priority.
Minister Hasani, while summarizing Albanian diplomacy for the year 2024, also outlined the objectives for 2025.
He emphasized that relations with neighboring countries and regional security remain a primary focus of Albanian diplomacy, with the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Kosovo being a national priority.
“Albania has consistently supported the preservation of Kosovo’s stability and integrity during a period fraught with both internal and external challenges.
We have always supported the facilitated dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, aimed at normalizing relations and achieving a sustainable peace agreement. This process is essential for the long-term stability of the region and for the integration of both countries into European structures. Albania has played a constructive role in this dialogue, encouraging both parties to demonstrate flexibility and genuine commitment to reaching an agreement that will respect the rights of all citizens and ensure lasting peace.”
“We have also provided continuous support to Kosovo in this process, lobbying for opportunities within this dialogue that would bring tangible benefits for both countries and Kosovo’s integration into the international community,” emphasized Hasani.
He further stated that Albania has strongly condemned any form of violence and terrorism manifested on the territory of Kosovo, including any violent acts directly targeting the destabilization of Kosovo and the wider Western Balkans.
Hasani also announced the commencement of “concrete cooperation with NATO for organizing the NATO Summit in Tirana in 2027, where Albania will be the first country in the region to host such an important event.”
The head of Albanian diplomacy explained that strengthening ties with the diaspora remains a priority, and he highlighted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is exploring “opportunities for young Albanians to return to the homeland and contribute to the country’s development, creating opportunities for ‘brain gain’ by bringing back knowledge and experience from abroad.”
