Haxhi Shala, a former commander of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), is back in Kosovo, according to a family announcement.
“Welcome home, father!” wrote Shala’s son, Flakron Shala, on Facebook, sharing a photo with the former MP.
Shala was sentenced by the Special Court in February 2025 to three years in prison for intimidating a witness, a charge he pleaded guilty to. He was initially arrested on 11 December 2023 and transferred the next day to the detention center in The Hague, with this period counted toward his sentence.
According to the plea agreement, Shala, along with Sabit Januzin and Ismet Bahtijari, contacted a witness and visited him, offering benefits in exchange for retracting his testimony. The Prosecutor’s Office stated that the act was carried out under Shala’s direction.
