Albulena Haxhiu, the elected MP from Lëvizja Vetëvendosje (LVV), has confirmed she will run again for the post of Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, despite failing to secure the required votes in two separate rounds earlier today.
Haxhiu, who was the official nominee of LVV, failed to reach the 61-vote threshold in both attempts during the inaugural session of the ninth legislature. The next parliamentary session has been scheduled for Monday at 15:00.
Opposition Accused of Institutional Blockade
In a public statement, Haxhiu blamed opposition parties for what she called a deliberate institutional blockade, accusing them of refusing to vote not only for the Speaker but also for deputy speakers.
“Despite their claims of having the numbers, the opposition is blocking the institutional process,” Haxhiu stated.
LVV Will Nominate Haxhiu Again on Monday
Despite today’s setbacks, Haxhiu confirmed that her party will re-nominate her for Speaker in the upcoming session. The move reflects LVV’s commitment to consolidating power and advancing its legislative agenda following the February 9 elections.
The continued deadlock raises concerns about a potential institutional crisis if the Assembly fails to elect its leadership in the next session.
