PRISTINA, Kosovo – August 6, 2025 – Acting Minister of Justice Albulena Haxhiu has reacted to President Vjosa Osmani’s decision to withdraw her request to the Constitutional Court. Osmani’s decision, made yesterday, was a result of Serbian judge Radomir Laban being assigned as the reporting judge.

In a post on Facebook, Haxhiu wrote that in 2018, she and others had urged then-President Hashim Thaçi not to appoint Laban as a Constitutional Court judge due to his “criminal past.”

Haxhiu explained that because Constitutional Court judges can only be dismissed with a proposal from two-thirds of the court’s judges, they had sent an official request to the court’s former president, Arta Rama-Hajrizi, asking her to initiate the dismissal procedure. However, the request was rejected as an “interference with their independence.”
