In an official ceremony marked by institutional tone and messages of state stability, Vjosa Osmani handed over presidential duties to Assembly Speaker Albulena Haxhiu, emphasizing the importance of institutional continuity and the role of women in leadership.

Osmani expressed her hope that Kosovo will continue to be led by a woman, highlighting that women demonstrate particular care for both institutions and citizens. She also stressed the urgency of electing a new president, underlining the importance of stability in a complex global context.

“I hope Kosovo will soon elect a new President to ensure institutional stability, especially at a time when the world is facing major crises,” Osmani said, adding that she and her team remain available to support state institutions at any time.

She further noted that the Presidency institution carries continuity dating back to Ibrahim Rugova and affirmed that it is being handed over with the same institutional integrity.

On her part, Haxhiu thanked Osmani for her work and expressed commitment to upholding institutional integrity and responsibility.

“For Kosovo, it is important to have individuals with high moral and professional integrity who always keep citizens in mind. As President, I understand the responsibility and the Constitution. I pledge to act in accordance with the Constitution and applicable legislation,” Haxhiu stated.

She called on political parties to set aside differences and prioritize the constitutional obligation of electing a new president, warning that delays could create institutional difficulties.

According to a decision by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo, the Assembly of Kosovo has until April 28 to elect a new president.
