The Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, Aivo Orav, stated that Kosovo “remains sensitive to manipulation” and, according to him, “to interference through disinformation on political and security issues.”

Disinformation in the Albanian language spreads mainly on social media, while in the Serbian language it appears more often in traditional media, with narratives often aligning with Russian disinformation, particularly on political and security matters.

He also emphasized that Kosovo ranks 40th out of 41 countries in the European Media Literacy Index, reflecting “the low level of institutional awareness regarding media literacy.”

“Across Europe and beyond, disinformation aims to weaken trust in institutions, polarize societies, and exploit divisions, and Kosovo is no exception. Based on findings from ‘hybrid.info’, disinformation in Albanian spreads mainly through social networks, while in Serbian it appears more in traditional media, often mirroring Russian disinformation, especially in political and security matters. As a result, Kosovo’s environment remains sensitive to manipulation and interference,” Orav reported to Kossev.
