Intense rainfall has hit the city of Lezhë in northern Albania since midnight, causing extensive flooding and significant disruption in urban zones, according to local media reports.

The local sewage and drainage systems were unable to cope with the high volume of water, resulting in severe flooding particularly in the “11 Janari” residential block in the “Besëlidhja” neighborhood, covering approximately 11.2 hectares of flooded area.

Urban Mobility Disrupted

Water levels reached up to 40 centimeters, blocking entrances to residential buildings and hampering the movement of both pedestrians and vehicles. Roads along the Lezhë–Shëngjin highway also experienced flooding, leading to partial traffic disruptions.

In addition to the flood damage, power outages have been reported across several areas, as severe weather continues to affect the wider territory.

Emergency Response Underway

Public service teams are actively working to manage the emergency and restore electricity and access to affected areas. No casualties have been reported so far, but authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel.
