Since last evening, Italy has been severely affected by stormy weather, which began impacting central Italy. A powerful storm that hit Elba Island on Thursday evening caused landslides and flooding, spreading through other parts of Tuscany, particularly Maremma Grossetana. The storm has affected Lucca, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato, and Florence provinces.

In Rome, the local police intervened in 50 different areas due to damage and disruption caused by the storm. In Via Ardeatina, a large tree fell, blocking half the road to the center and halting traffic. Additionally, a flooded underpass led to the closure of the Appian Way.

Numerous roads were closed overnight due to mudslides and flooding. In Manciano (Grosseto), nearly 40 millimeters of rain fell within half an hour, causing flooding of small streams and roadways. A woman was rescued from her car in Orbetello.

In Orbetello’s Municipality, around 400 hectares of agricultural land were flooded. In less than four hours overnight, 133 millimeters of rain fell in an area already impacted by earlier rainfall, bringing the total to more than 210 millimeters in 24 hours.

Following intense rainfall on Elba Island, around 80 people were evacuated from their homes and cars, with many basement and ground-level rooms flooded. Rescue teams have been conducting drainage operations, with divers and rescuers arriving from Livorno for necessary restoration work. In Portoferraio, firefighters rescued several people trapped in their homes. A school was also evacuated.

The Mignone River overflowed in Monte Riccio (Tarquinia), and firefighters rescued families trapped in their homes.
