U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has addressed concerns raised by American veterans who fear the United States might be drawn into “another endless war in the Middle East, over weapons of mass destruction.”

During a press conference at the Pentagon, Hegseth asserted that the current situation is not about a prolonged conflict. “This is certainly not an endless issue,” he stated. “President Trump has given me a powerful and clear mission: to destroy Iran’s nuclear capabilities.”

He emphasized that the United States’ goal is prevention, not further escalation of the conflict.

“This is what the Iranian regime needs to understand,” Hegseth added. “As the president stated last night, he wants peace – there must be a negotiated solution here.”
