U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that President Donald Trump is redefining the United States’ security strategy in the Western Hemisphere. Washington is reportedly shaping a new geopolitical map covering the area from Greenland to the Panama Canal.

Hegseth presented a broader vision for U.S. security policy in the Western Hemisphere. His remarks came amid ongoing conflict between the U.S. and Iran, although Iran was not mentioned in the speech.

Regarding the new security strategy, Hegseth said:

“President Trump has drawn a new strategic map from Greenland to the Gulf of America, including the Panama Canal and surrounding countries. The Pentagon calls this area the ‘Greater North America’ and considers it a key security perimeter for the U.S.”

He added that all countries and territories north of the equator – from Greenland to Ecuador and from Alaska to Guyana – are considered part of the immediate security space that Washington aims to protect.
