The Hepatitis A virus has been detected in samples of frozen berries originating from Serbia, which were intended for distribution in the German market. This significant finding was reported on the official website of the European Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).

The alert, issued on July 10, categorizes the risk as “serious.” The contaminated samples were collected on May 15 of this year.

Hepatitis A is a liver inflammation primarily spread through the consumption of food or water contaminated with infected feces. While it typically does not cause chronic liver disease, it can lead to severe symptoms and, rarely, life-threatening acute liver failure. This incident highlights ongoing concerns about food safety and quality control in international supply chains.
