The Regional Water Utility Company “Prishtina” (KRU Prishtina) has reported elevated manganese levels in water samples from the area supplied by the Badoc reservoir.
According to KRU Prishtina, the latest laboratory analyses show a rising trend of manganese concentration in both the reservoir and the distribution network.
The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo (IKSHPK) monitored water quality and first detected increased manganese levels on September 1, 2025. While the concentrations exceed the limits defined in Administrative Instruction No. 10/2021 – Drinking Water Quality, they have not surpassed the health threshold considered hazardous to humans.
IKSHPK advises residents supplied by the Badoc Water Plant to avoid using the water for drinking until further notice. Boiling the water does not remove manganese. The water may still be used for cleaning, personal hygiene, and household purposes.
KRU Prishtina has taken immediate measures to ensure water quality:
- Reduced production levels to maintain supply quality.
- Intensified flushing of the distribution network, including main and secondary pipes.
- Water supply via tanker trucks for affected areas according to a published schedule.
IKSHPK continues to monitor water quality closely and collaborate with KRU Prishtina to ensure safe drinking water for residents.
