Almost every part of northern Kosovo has been patrolled by the Kosovo Police since the terrorist attack on the Iber Lepenc Canal.
Most of the officers are from stations in other cities, including the Regional Police of Gjakova, Klinë, and Skenderaj.
In addition, they are working more than 12 hours a day without rest days in many cases.
According to Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of Police in the northern region, this increased presence is due to the operational needs on the ground, especially after the terrorist attack in Varagë, Zubin Potok.
“We have assistance from other regions based on operational plans. Here, we have 330 officers on the ground, and if a larger deployment plan is required, the entire General Directorate of Police is engaged, and we also receive assistance from other municipalities,” said Elshani.
When asked if the situation is overwhelming for the officers involved in this operational plan, Elshani gave a brief answer.
“It’s not exhausting work, it’s a duty, so we consider it to be in order,” he emphasized.
In addition to the patrolling units, static posts have been established in the north where Kosovo Police officers are stationed.
Meanwhile, following the terrorist attack on the Iber Lepenc Canal, the Security Council of the Republic of Kosovo decided that, in addition to the Kosovo Police, the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) would also be involved in securing critical infrastructure in other parts of Kosovo.
