U.S. Ambassador to Serbia, Christopher Hill, stated that regarding the indictment raised by Kosovo authorities for the armed attack in Banjska, his country advocates that the attackers be held accountable.
According to him, this stance of the United States has long been established.
On September 11, Kosovo’s Special Prosecutor’s Office announced the indictment of 45 individuals, including Milan Radoičić, accusing them of participating in the armed group that attacked the Kosovo Police in Banjska, Zveçan, on September 24, 2023.
Kosovo authorities consider the attack to be an act of terrorism.
The indictment has not yet been made public, and the identities of the other accused individuals remain unknown.
A group of armed Serbs attacked the Kosovo Police on September 24 of last year. During the attack, police officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed, and in the ensuing exchange of fire, three Serbian attackers were also killed.
Milan Radoičić, the former deputy leader of the Serbian List – the main political party representing Serbs in Kosovo, which enjoys the support of Belgrade – has claimed responsibility for the attack. He is believed to be in Serbia.
The case prosecutor, Naim Abazi, during a press conference in Pristina, did not mention the possible involvement of Serbian leadership in the attack – something that has been repeatedly highlighted by Kosovo authorities, despite Serbia’s denial.
