Kosovo has made a significant entry into international history by becoming a regular member of the International Federation for Sports Medicine (FIMS). This decision was made at the Delegates’ Council meeting in Dubai on Saturday, October 26.
With the exception of an abstention from Georgia, all present countries unanimously voted in favor of Kosovo’s membership, enthusiastically accepting the Kosovo Association for Sports Medicine (KASEM) project, an initiative founded under the auspices of UBT.
The rector of UBT, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, was present to deliver the presentation and make this historic request. He thanked the delegates for their contributions to this process and praised the Executive Committee for approving the decision at the General Council of Delegates. Special thanks were given to Professor Norbert Bachl, who has been a constant support for Kosovo in building the necessary structures for membership, as well as to FIMS President Prof. Fabio Pigozzi.
Rector Hajrizi emphasized that Kosovo will be an engaged and responsible member, ready to contribute to the development of sports medicine at new international levels. This membership not only represents a significant achievement for Kosovo but also an opportunity to further promote and develop sports medicine with international standards.
In this context, Kosovo is creating a new path for athletes and sports medicine professionals, taking an important step toward a brighter future. Membership in FIMS is a testament to Kosovo’s commitment to advancing this discipline on a global level, becoming an inspiring model for other countries.
At this important event, in addition to membership, Rector Hajrizi participated in the Congress, visited the sports medicine technology fair, and engaged in discussions with companies for collaboration with UBT and Kosovo. He also held various meetings with delegates and experts from different countries, including representatives from the Olympic committees worldwide.
During his visit to the University of Dubai for Medicine, he also participated in a parallel conference on orthopedics and met with Prof. Filippo Parisi from Italy, head of the Shoulder Academy, with whom he will continue collaboration for Kosovo and the Western Balkans.
