LDK deputy Avdullah Hoti has reacted to the current electricity situation. Hoti stated that the energy crisis is destroying Kosovo’s economy.
He said that current and future investments will be negatively affected by the lack of clarity regarding energy supply. According to him, the uncertainty is not only related to the high and unpredictable prices but also to the insecurity of the supply.
“No measures have been taken for many years now. The Kosovo A and Kosovo B power plant units continue to drop out of the system, as tenders for renovation and maintenance are delayed for years. The gas power plant under the Washington Agreement was canceled in 2021. The funds allocated for that purpose were redirected to the battery project but were ultimately lost due to changing priorities in U.S. policies,” Hoti said.
According to him, entering the open energy market without securing the necessary preconditions seems to be destructive for many producers.
“This will have consequences for the employment of thousands of workers and, in particular, will worsen the competitive abilities of Kosovo’s producers in both the domestic and foreign markets, further deepening Kosovo’s trade deficit,” Hoti added.
