The US ambassador in Pristina, Jeff Hovenier, in a television interview clarified the term “normalized relations” between Kosovo and Serbia, as he says that some people in Kosovo are worried when they hear something like that said by Americans with the opinion that this is something less than what is actually ultimately required.
Hovenier has said that he is happy to clarify that such terminology does not mean anything like that and reiterates that the US position has been clear in both camps.
The American diplomat said that the position of the USA is that the final result of the negotiations between Kosovo and Serbia can only be mutual recognition.
“The US believes that the final result of this process can only be mutual recognition”, said Hovenier.
The American ambassador has said that on this issue he expresses the American position with enough conviction.
In this interview, Hovenier also talked about Kosovo’s relationship with the USA and said that Kosovars can sleep peacefully in terms of security, since American soldiers are in Kosovo. However, Hovenier said that such support cannot be guaranteed and that Kosovo must do its part in this report.
“It means that we want a partnership to help create a safer, more stable region for Kosovo and Serbia”, said Hovenier, among other things.
