The U.S. Ambassador to Kosovo, Jeffrey Hovenier, officially concluded his three-year tenure today, holding his final farewell meeting with the President of the country, Vjosa Osmani.
During his statement to the media, Hovenier emphasized that he concluded his mission in the same way it started—by laying a wreath at the statue of the late President Ibrahim Rugova, honoring his legacy and the values he stood for.
He also reiterated the United States’ commitment to Kosovo and expressed his belief in the country’s potential and bright future.
“I would like to thank the people of Kosovo. It has been a dream job for me to serve as the U.S. Ambassador here for these three years and to have had the opportunity to work together with the people of Kosovo to help advance the country. The United States is committed to our partnership.
We want to see Kosovo succeed and progress. When I think of how this country was when I first started working for it in the late ’90s, when I think of how it was at the time of independence, and when I think of how it is now, there is no doubt about the progress and the capacity of the people of Kosovo, their resilience to achieve their vision of a sovereign, independent, democratic, multi-ethnic, prosperous, and successful state.
It has been my pleasure and honor to play a small role in supporting this process. Together with the American people, I wish all of you every success. I will leave as an even stronger friend of Kosovo than when I arrived,” Hovenier said to the media.
