President Donald Trump hosted Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa at the White House on Monday, presenting him with two bottles of his signature perfume, “Victory 45-47”, including one for al-Sharaa’s wife, while reportedly asking, “How many wives do you have?”
The meeting marked the first visit to the Oval Office by a Syrian head of state since the country gained independence in 1946.
Al-Sharaa, 43, a former rebel commander once pursued by the U.S. with a $10 million bounty, assumed power following the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad last December.
In a clip from the Oval Office that circulated online Wednesday, Trump is seen spraying the cologne on al-Sharaa’s neck, highlighting an unusual and personal gesture during a diplomatic visit.
The meeting drew attention not only for its historical significance but also for the unconventional and informal tone set by Trump during the encounter.
