PDK MP Enver Hoxhaj has called on his party to postpone its upcoming leadership convention, arguing that the accelerated timeline prevents a fair, competitive, and transparent process for choosing the next party chairman.
Hoxhaj urged the party’s Presidency to delay the event at least until next Sunday, saying that such a move would allow delegates and party members to properly review candidates, their platforms, and their proposals for the party’s future direction.
“A serious party cannot hold a substantial political convention in such a short time”
In a public statement, Hoxhaj emphasized that the current plan to hold the convention without sufficient preparation time undermines the credibility of the process.
“The PDK Convention to elect the party leader must be postponed because a serious political party cannot hold such an important and substantive convention in such a short period of time,” he wrote.
He added that a short delay would give party members and delegates the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the candidates, their platforms, and the major national issues affecting Kosovo.
Concerns Over Transparency and Internal Reform
According to Hoxhaj, the current rush “does not guarantee a quality race, nor the necessary reform and unity” the party needs.
He warned that a leadership contest held under pressure and time constraints risks weakening the party’s internal democracy and its ability to present strong, credible leadership moving forward.
Call for an Open and Pressure-Free Process
Hoxhaj stressed that for a decision of such importance, the party must ensure that the process is open, competitive, and free from internal pressure.
“For such a significant decision, the electoral process must be postponed so the race is open to everyone and the membership has enough time to express its will without pressure,” he concluded.
His remarks come amid growing internal debates within the PDK, as the party prepares for a pivotal leadership vote that could influence its future direction and its role in Kosovo’s political landscape.
