Human Remains Found in Gjakovë; Possibly Linked to War Missing Person

During ongoing field searches, police teams, in coordination with the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) and other relevant units, discovered human remains that are suspected to belong to at least one individual listed as missing during the 1998–1999 Kosovo war.

According to the official statement, the remains were found in the Gjakovë region, as part of continued efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons from the war.

Following initial identification at the site, the remains were retrieved by the IML and sent for further forensic examinations to determine the individual’s identity and the circumstances surrounding their death.

“Gjakovë / 1998-1999. Police teams, in coordination with the IML and other competent units, have encountered human remains suspected to belong to at least one individual listed among the missing during the last Kosovo war. The remains were retrieved by the IML for further forensic examination,” reads the official report from the Kosovo Police.
