Tensions in Iran have resulted in the deaths of over 500 people, according to a U.S.-based human rights group, as Tehran threatened to target U.S. military bases if President Donald Trump acts to intervene on behalf of the protesters, Reuters reported.

With the clerical establishment of the Islamic Republic facing its largest demonstrations since 2022, Trump has repeatedly threatened intervention if force is used against the protestors.

According to the latest figures verified by activists inside and outside Iran, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA) confirmed the deaths of 490 protesters and 48 security personnel, with over 10,600 people arrested in just two weeks of unrest.

Iran has not provided an official death toll, and Reuters could not independently verify the numbers.

Trump is set to be briefed by U.S. officials on Tuesday regarding options for Iran, including military strikes, cyber operations, expanded sanctions, and online support for anti-government sources, reported the Wall Street Journal.

Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, warned Washington against “a miscalculation.”

“Let it be clear: in the event of an attack on Iran, occupied territories (Israel), as well as all U.S. bases and ships, will be our legitimate targets,” said Qalibaf, a former commander in the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
