Approximately 600,000 people marched through central London this Saturday to mark the 77th anniversary of Nakba, holding one of the largest pro-Palestinian demonstrations since November 2023.

The protest began at Embankment, passed by Big Ben, and concluded in front of the British Prime Minister’s residence at Downing Street. Participants came from across the United Kingdom, including Wales and Northern England, joining this massive march.

The event was organized by a coalition of groups, including the Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Friends of Al-Aqsa, Muslim Association of Britain, Stop the War Coalition, and the Palestinian Forum in Britain, among others.

According to Stop the War, the protest aimed to commemorate the Nakba of 1948 and demand urgent action from the British government to end the ongoing ethnic cleansing of Palestinians from their land.

Nakba—meaning “catastrophe” in Arabic—refers to the forced displacement of over 700,000 Palestinians during the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948 by Zionist militias. For Palestinians, this event marks the beginning of the loss of their land and the ongoing suffering they endure to this day.
