Elseid Hysaj has once again become a key figure for Albania, and with his performance against Latvia, he is now just one match away from equaling the record for most appearances with the red-and-black jersey, currently held by Lorik Cana.

“It was a very important match, and we absolutely needed the win to keep alive the dream we have in our minds. I’m happy we won, even though it was a very demanding game both mentally and physically. Matches like this should be closed much earlier than just 1-0.

I understand the kind of player Broja is, and I try to put him in the best position. He’s a boy with great potential, but he’s a bit closed in on himself. I’m sure that sooner or later he will explode and help us even more.

We can’t just keep playing with 1-0 anymore, because football has changed. Serbia could have scored at the end, just as we could. At times we should’ve made it 2-0, otherwise the match could get complicated. We need to work more on the attacking phase.

Cana’s record? This is a dream for me—to equal a player like Cana is a huge honor, and I hope to surpass it and reach 100. Let’s hope we win the next match; if we do, I believe it will be the most beautiful match of my life. Serbia? We already found out—it turned out great,” Hysaj told TV Klan after the match.
