The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, today welcomed the Tuesday announcements regarding the situation in Iran.
“Restoring cooperation with the agency is key to a successful diplomatic agreement to resolve the dispute over Iran’s nuclear activities,” Grossi stated.
He mentioned that he has written to the Iranian Foreign Minister to remind him of the importance of working together and has proposed a meeting.
IAEA inspectors have remained in Iran throughout the conflict and are ready to resume work as soon as possible, the organization said in a statement.
“Throughout these attacks, we have seen considerable damage to several nuclear centers in Iran, including uranium enrichment facilities,” Grossi stated. “We believe there has been localized radioactivity and chemical leakage within the affected facilities where nuclear material — primarily enriched uranium of various grades — was present, but there are no reports yet of increased radiation levels outside the facility.”
