Roads on the Spanish holiday island of Ibiza turned into rivers of mud on Tuesday, following heavy rainfall that triggered severe flooding.
Local authorities issued a red weather alert for rain early in the morning for the islands of Ibiza and Formentera, where up to 180 mm of rain is expected within 12 hours.
Footage from Ibiza shows vehicles almost completely submerged, while residents wade through deep water along the island’s main road, AP reports.
Authorities said firefighters have been deployed to help people believed to be trapped inside their vehicles and homes.
Weather alerts are also in effect for Mallorca as well as the region of Valencia. Just a year ago, more than 230 people lost their lives in Valencia due to flooding.
