The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo (PSRK) has officially filed an indictment on August 1, 2025, against Faton Klinaku and Nuredin Selmani, who are accused of threatening acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Faton Klinaku: Threats Via Facebook
According to the indictment published by Betimi për Drejtësi, Faton Klinaku is accused of having deliberately and publicly threatened Prime Minister Kurti on August 29, 2023, through a Facebook post, with the intention of intimidating him into taking—or refraining from—certain actions in his official capacity.
Klinaku allegedly wrote:
“A voter of his was so disappointed he said: ‘I gave him my vote for change, but not only is there no change—this country is sinking even deeper. The only option left is to leave.’ I told him: I never voted for him, nor did I expect any positive change from him. As for leaving the country—I’d rather kill Albin Kurti than give up and leave Kosovo. Those who fought for Kosovo should never leave it.”
Following public backlash, the indictment states that Klinaku repeated the threat the next day, on August 30, 2023, by reposting:
“Once again I repeat—if the previous post seemed scandalous: I’d rather kill Albin Kurti than give up and flee from Kosovo.”
Legal Charges Against Klinaku
Due to these statements, Klinaku is formally charged with public and serious death threats against Albin Kurti, in relation to his role as Prime Minister. The indictment qualifies his actions under the criminal offense of “Threat” under Article 181, paragraph 3 in relation to paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Kosovo.
Nuredin Selmani: Public Endorsement and Live TV Statement
In the second count of the indictment, Nuredin Selmani is charged with making threats on August 30, 2023, in Drenas, with the intent to intimidate Prime Minister Kurti by referencing and endorsing Klinaku’s original Facebook threat.
Selmani allegedly posted a photo collage featuring Kurti and Klinaku, accompanied by a threatening caption:
“I support Faton Klinaku. Just one call, Faton—I’m there for whatever you need. I can’t wait for this to start.”
Later that same evening, Selmani appeared via video link on the TV show “Debat Plus” on Dukagjini TV, where the debate was focused on “OVL-UÇK vs Kurti.” During the broadcast, he is alleged to have said:
“I believe that anyone who does harm the way Albin Kurti does—if I were in his place—must be killed, because it is treason against the homeland.”
Furthermore, the indictment claims that Selmani reiterated similar threats during private phone conversations, which were discovered following a forensic examination of his mobile phone. He was reportedly in possession of several photos showing him with long-barreled assault weapons.
Legal Charges Against Selmani
Selmani is charged under the same offense of “Threat” (Article 181, paragraph 3 in relation to paragraph 2) of the Kosovo Penal Code.
Klinaku’s Response
In response to the indictment, Klinaku stated on August 1 that he is eager to confront Kurti in court.
“I can’t wait for the trial—I even posted a reaction on Facebook,” he said.
