The Kosovo Hydrometeorological Institute (IHMK) has announced that a cyclone originating from southern Italy and the Ionian Sea has caused intense snowfall in several areas, with the situation expected to persist in the coming days.
This situation is expected to be more pronounced on Monday (January 13), with minimum temperatures ranging from -5 to -3 degrees Celsius and maximum temperatures between -2 and -1 degrees. Winds will blow from the northeast at speeds of 1-7 m/s.
On Tuesday, temperatures are expected to drop to -3 degrees Celsius, with maximum temperatures reaching up to 2 degrees Celsius.
IHMK has issued a warning for increased caution and advised against unnecessary travel.
“A cyclone from southern Italy and the Ionian Sea has brought heavy snowfall to several areas, mainly at higher altitudes, along with a noticeable drop in temperatures across the country. This meteorological situation is expected to continue with additional snowfall, mainly on Monday.”
“Freezing conditions are already present in all areas, making travel more difficult. Therefore, additional caution is recommended for drivers, who should be equipped with winter gear and avoid unnecessary travel. Pedestrians and elderly people are also advised to take maximum care to avoid slips and accidents on the roads,” the statement reads.
