The Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) announces that it has achieved excellent results during 2024, successfully overcoming challenges related to outdated technology.
In a public statement, KEK reports that the increase in electricity production and higher coal exploitation have significantly contributed to improved performance.
“From January to December 2023, the gross electricity production was around 5,534,196 MWh, while in the same period of 2024, this production reached 6,178,372 MWh, marking a significant increase of approximately 11.65% compared to the previous year,” the statement says.
Furthermore, it is noted that coal production has seen a similar increase.
From January to December 2023, KEK exploited 6,923,659 tons of coal, while in the same period of 2024, 8,068,711 tons were exploited, showing an increase of 16.55%.
“Another important achievement is the sale of electricity surpluses, which are typically available during nighttime hours, when local consumption is lower. The sale of surpluses from January to December 2023 was around 350,449 MWh, while in the same period of 2024, 645,824 MWh were sold, marking an increase of 45.75%, or around 295,375 MWh more than the previous year,” the statement concludes.
