Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti announced on Saturday the inauguration of the “Skifteri” drone, produced in Gjilan by the company Future Minds Academy. In a Facebook post, he stated that, in addition to foreign supplies, Kosovo is now producing its first domestically made drones.
“We are building and developing the future of defense industry and combat drone advancement right here in Kosovo. Our state is becoming a producer. In Gjilan, together with Mayor Hyseni, we visited the companies manufacturing the military drones ‘Skifteri’ and civil drones, developed by Future Minds Academy and MIGA SkyShield MAR,” Kurti wrote.
He shared details about the drones, stating:
“Made in Gjilan – and of course, ‘Made in Kosovo’. The kamikaze drone ‘K1’ reaches a top speed of 180 km/h and an altitude of up to 2,500 meters, while the ‘Skifteri’ can reach an altitude of 5,000 meters, has an operational range of 20 km, and a speed of 270 km/h.”
Kurti emphasized that, following acquisitions of “Bayraktar TB-2,” “Puna,” and “Skydagger” drones, investments in defense, security, capacity building, and local production will continue.
Meanwhile, Gjilan Mayor Alban Hyseni described the drone as “inspiring” and “proof of the creativity of Gjilan’s youth.”
“Today it was a great pleasure to join Prime Minister Albin Kurti at the inauguration of the ‘Skifteri’ drone, produced by the innovative company Future Minds Academy. This is an inspiring example and proof that the youth of Gjilan are creative and visionary. Together with the Prime Minister, we met local entrepreneurs and engineers to discuss projects that will transform our city during the next mandate we are reaffirming tomorrow,” Hyseni wrote on Facebook.
