The Ministry of Interior (MOI) of North Macedonia has announced that it has filed a criminal complaint against the chief of security for the Speaker of Parliament in connection with the incident involving the President of Kosovo that occurred at Skopje Airport.
The MOI’s Department for Internal Control, Criminal Investigations, and Professional Standards, along with the Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office responsible for Organized Crime and Corruption – the Specialized Department for prosecuting crimes committed by authorized police officers and prison police, has filed a criminal complaint against S.S., the head of the Personal Security Department for the Speaker of Parliament, on suspicion of committing the crime of “Endangering Security” and the crime of “Preventing an Official from Performing an Official Duty.”
The report states that on August 1, 2024, around 10:30 a.m., at Skopje International Airport, S.S. arrived in the VIP parking area with a vehicle equipped with rotating lights. He exited the vehicle, removed his weapon from his belt, prepared it, and then reinserted it into his belt. He then approached a police officer from the Border Police Department stationed in front of the VIP entrance, addressed the officer in a loud tone, pushed him with both hands, and, while threatening him, obstructed the police officer in performing his official duties.
S.S. was sent to Skopje International Airport by the Speaker of Parliament to address the misunderstanding that arose with the President of Kosovo regarding security procedures for baggage and electronic device checks during commercial flights.
Subsequently, the announcement continues, S.S., along with two other officers from the Personal Security Department, entered the VIP area and into rooms where he did not have authorization to move or stay. There, he began to threaten the lives of present TAV-Skopje employees, border police, and the Department for the Protection of Persons and Designated Objects, demanding that they escort the President to the aircraft.
The Internal Control Unit, in accordance with its competencies, will propose the initiation of disciplinary procedures against police officer S.S. and will impose mandatory measures for removal from the workplace – suspension until the conclusion of the disciplinary procedure. Additionally, for police officers S.R. and N.B., it will propose initiating procedures for violations of work orders and discipline due to executing illegal orders, negligence in performing work duties, and damaging the reputation of the police, the MOI announcement concludes.
