On Wednesday morning, January 22, 2025, an increased presence of NATO-led KFOR peacekeeping forces was observed near the Ibar Bridge, which separates South Mitrovica from North Mitrovica.

Official Statements

KFOR officials on-site described the deployment as a routine visit.
“This is a simple visit. It will only last today and is unrelated to the Ibar Bridge,” they stated.

Veton Elshani, Deputy Director of the North Mitrovica Regional Directorate of the Kosovo Police, confirmed that no specific information was available regarding the increased presence of KFOR in the area.

Security Status in the North

Despite the sighting of additional forces, Elshani reassured that the security situation in the northern region remains calm but delicate.

The Ibar Bridge remains a symbol of division in Mitrovica, often drawing international attention, particularly in times of heightened political tension.
