The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed an indictment against D.R. for “War crimes against the civilian population.”

The Prosecutor’s office announced that investigations confirmed that during the period of May 7-10, 1999, in the city of Gjakova, the defendant participated in a widespread and organized attack by Serbian military, police, and paramilitary forces against the Albanian civilian population. He is accused of acting in co-perpetration with other individuals.

D.R. is accused of the murder of three Albanian civilians, who were then physically mistreated, for the forcible expulsion of the Albanian civilian population from their neighborhoods, looting and destruction of houses in several neighborhoods of Gjakova,” the statement reads.

According to the Prosecution, the indictment is based on victim testimonies, eyewitness accounts, identification of the defendant through photographs, reports from the Institute of Forensic Medicine, and other material evidence collected during the investigation.

The defendant is currently in pre-trial detention, and the Special Prosecution has proposed the continuation of his detention due to the risk of flight.

The Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo “reiterates its commitment and dedication to shedding light on all crimes committed during the war in Kosovo, to bringing justice for the victims and their families, and to contributing to the building of a just and democratic society,” concludes the Prosecution’s announcement.
