Ukraine has accused Russia of transferring abducted Ukrainian children to “re-education camps,” a practice widely condemned by the international community.

This was revealed during a session in the United States Senate, where lawyer and international law expert Kateryna Rashevska presented detailed information about these actions.

Rashevska emphasized that the purpose of these camps is twofold: in addition to “re-education” and the promotion of pro-Russian ideology, the children are removed from their families and from the influence of their home communities, creating a deeply unsafe and traumatizing situation.

According to Rashevska, the scheme has evolved over time. Previously, children were kept within the territory of Russia and Belarus, where their return although complicated was still more feasible.

However, there are now indications that minors are being sent to North Korea, a country with extremely strict state control and deep isolation from the international community. This development makes the recovery and return of Ukrainian children extraordinarily difficult, raising serious concerns about their safety, well-being, and fundamental rights.

The international community has expressed concern over these practices and has called for independent investigations and concrete measures to ensure the children are returned to their families, condemning any action that violates children’s rights and international law.
