Iran announced on Wednesday that it has arrested five individuals suspected of being agents for Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency. The arrests were made on charges of “tarnishing” the country’s image online, Iranian news agencies reported, as conveyed by The Guardian.

“These mercenaries sought to instill fear in the public and tarnish the image of the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran through their calculated online activities,” the Tasnim and SNA news agencies quoted a statement from the Revolutionary Guard.

The statement added that the arrests took place in western Iran.
